3 Killed, 8 Injured in Shootings in Central and Western Tunisia

17 March 2014 10:17 am | Asma Smadhi| 0 A National Guard armored vehicle.Three gunmen were killed and six security officers injured Monday morning during a shootout in the northwest state of Jendouba, according to Tunisian radio stations.Two other security officers were also injured in a simultaneous incident in Sidi Bouzid state, in central Tunisia.The confrontation in Jendouba began around 4 a.m. involving 10 gunmen and national guard officers and anti-terrorism forces, according to radio station Express FM. The clashes followed a raid on a house used by the group, reports said.The Ministry of Interior will hold a press conference this afternoon to “discuss the recent events.”Tunisia has struggled with militant attacks, which authorities have blamed on Islamist groups since the 2011 revolution.
Seven militants were killed last Friday near the Tunisian-Algerian border by the Algerian army, according a statement issued by the Algerian Ministry of Defense.
